IBM Z: Beyond the Technology

I began my career focused primarily on technology from writing code, understanding systems and solving technical problems.

Working in IBM Z support began to change that perspective.

When a critical system has a problem, understanding the technology matters enormously. But behind the technical problem is a customer and behind the customer is a business that needs something to just work.

As my career moved through support, consulting and leadership, the questions changed too.

“What’s wrong?” increasingly became “What are you trying to achieve?”

That distinction has stayed with me.

Today, conversations about IBM Z and LinuxONE might involve AI, APIs, automation, hybrid cloud, security or resilience. But the most important question isn’t always what the technology can do.

It’s what does the business need to achieve and how can technology help us get there?

In my latest IBM blog, I reflect on that journey and why learning to connect technology capability with customer needs and business outcomes has been one of the most valuable lessons of my career.
